Calow Drifts

There are a few of these dotted around the area. They are something to do with the former mines; presumably venting gases to prevent them building up and exploding as they have been know to do in the past. They're owned by the Coal Authority. This one on Back Lane above Calow Drifts.

 The last few days has been a bit hectic, but here we are back in Havelock North and back to my usual exercise regime of cycle 3.4 kilometres from home to the car park, then walk various trails. here looking out towards Mount Erin with Mount Kahuranaki just visible over the ridge to the left.
